BFRL Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) and Smokeview

realistic smoke animation

Overview

FDS is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of fire-driven fluid flow. The software solves numerically a form of the Navier-Stokes equations appropriate for low-speed, thermally-driven flow with an emphasis on smoke and heat transport from fires. Smokeview is a visualization program that is used to display the results of an FDS simulation.

Obtaining FDS and Smokeview

Test version of FDS, Smokeview and the associated documentation are available at http://www.fds-smv.net

FDS/Smokeview 5 is planned for release in the summer of 2007 after which support for version 4 will discontinue. If you are a first time user, consider working with the test version of FDS and Smokeview.

FDS and Smokeview (version 4) are available via the Downloads link.
