Abstract:
The Department of Defense's Next Generation Fire
Suppression Technology Program (NGP) has completed its
eighth year of research with a goal to develop and
demonstrate technology for economically feasible,
environmentally acceptable and user-safe processes,
techniques, and fluids that meet the operational
requirements currently satisfied by halon 1301 systems
in aircraft. Research on new flame suppression chemistry
and improved suppressant delivery has produced
substantive results. The report includes a description
of the research the NGP will perform en route to
completing its work in FY2006. The NGP is supported by
the DoD Strategic Environmental Research and Development
Program (SERDP).
