Abstract:
A discussion of work is presented on the author's
approach to develop predictions for fire growth
phenomena. This approach has favored the development of
approximate analytical formulas which convey the
dominant mechanisms of the phenomena, and which have
practical utility. The discussion includes the
phenomena of ignition, burning rate, flame spread,
flashover and fire plumes. Recent work on wood
combustion, and a correlation for the near field
entrainment in fire plumes is presented.
